Beta Club: Beta Club members, there will be a short meeting Thursday, December 5th. You can attend the 7:15 AM meeting or the 3:15 PM meeting. Make plans to attend. It is mandatory that you attend at least one of the meetings.

Attention Seniors: Do you need help completing your FASFA? Do you need help getting started? Do you have questions about financial aid? We will be holding a FASFA Completion Workshop for students and parents, Tuesday December 10th beginning at 3:30 PM EST in the computer lab (206). If you have started your FASFA and need help completing the process, this is the perfect opportunity for you to receive the help and assistance you need. Both students and parents will need their FASFA ID username and password. Parents are encouraged to bring a copy of your tax documents. If you have any questions, please see Ms. Bledsoe or Ms. Harris.

Also, once you have completed your FASFA, we will place your name in the drawing for a chance to win prizes if you forward your confirmation email to the counselor.


Peer Mediators: Mr Redding would like to meet with all Peer Mediators in the computer lab (Room 206) during advocacy period on Wednesday, December 4th and Thursday, December 5th.

Bullying Prevention Theme: The Bullying Prevention message for the month of December is "Shur Down Bullying." Shut it down VHS.

Science Club meeting: Science club meeting will be held Wednesday (12/4/2019) at 3:15 in Mr. Stuart's room. All students are welcomed to attend.

Congratulations to the following seniors:


Seirra Cooper received the Freshman Achievement Scholarship from Montevallo University in the amount of $4,000.


Megan Ford received the President's Scholarship Award from Faulkner University in the amount of $36,000.


Caneshia Winston received the Achievement Scholarship from Auburn University at Montgomery in the amount of $12,000.


As of today, Scholarship totals for the graduating Class of 2020 is at $288,000.00. If you have any scholarships offers plea e remember to bring those in to Ms. Harris

Congratulations to Will Bush for making a commitment to serve his country by enlisting into the U.S. Marines.


We are very proud of Will and wish him all the best in his future. If you are interested in joining the military please see a counselor for more information.

Announcement:   Career Connections Expo Every 

Students, have you decided on your future career?   We will have a Career Connections Expo here at VHS on Thursday, December 5t h! Representatives from local business and industry will be on campus in the gym to share information about their chosen career fields and opportunities within their business. Our Career Tech programs will also be represented as pathways for you to explore.

If you are looking for a job, several businesses have expressed that they will have applications available. Come ready to take advantage of this special opportunity by participating and asking questions to learn more about a variety of career fields. All students are invited to attend. We'll call for you Thursday morning to report to the gym.

Also, please be aware if you park in front or along the side of the gym, you will need to park in the gravel lot next Thursday. 

Share your Valley Spirit for Christmas. Cheerleaders are selling t-shirts, long sleeve shirts and hoodies. There are three designs and two colors you can choose from. See Mrs. Phillips or a cheerleader if you want to see the design. Short Sleeve $12, Short Sleeve (Dri-Fit) $16, Long Sleeve (Cotton)$16, Crew Neck Sweatshirt $16, Long Sleeve Dri-Fit $18 and Hoodie $22. All money is due Monday, December 2nd. 

 


 

Congratulations to our VHS Competition Cheerleaders! They competed this weekend at the Southern Championship in Birmingham. They received 1st place in traditional routine and 5th place in game day with a score of 91, which is the highest score they received by any VHS cheer team and only out of first place by 2.1 points. They also received bids to the National High School Cheerleading Competion which will take place February 5-10, 2020. Great Job Cheerleaders.

 

Applications are now open for the Bezos Scholars Program, a year-long leadership development program that amplifies youth voice and action. Current high school juniors are invited to apply. Scholars gain leadership skills, collaborate and build their networks, and make a meaningful difference in their community. If you are an interested 11th grade student and demonstrate academic rigor, maturity, curiosity, and community leadership, please see Ms. Bledsoe for the link to complete the online application. All applications are due by January 31, 2020.

 

Tennis Tryouts: will be held Tuesday, December 3rd and Thursday, December 5th starting at 3:30pm ate the Sportsplex Tennis Courts. Students must attend at least one of the days to make the team. No prior experience is necessary.

The student-parent meeting will be Wednesday, December 11th at 5:00pm in Mr.  Stuart’s room, room 509.

Junior Opportunity: Tallapoosa River Electric Cooperative (TREC) will be sending two area high school juniors on two all-expenses paid trips to Montgomery and Washington D.C. to represent them on the 2020 Electric Cooperative Youth Tour. To qualify, a student must be a junior in high school and be a dependent of a TREC member.


This once in a lifetime experience provides opportunities for students to learn about the history of Alabama and the United States. They also learn about the cooperative form of business and the legislative process, not to mention they make lifelong friends!


Students interested in participating must see Ms. Bledsoe or visit www.trec.coop for an application. The deadline to turn applications in to Ms. Bledsoe is January 10, 2020.

Tutoring: Need help writing a paper, pulling up your social studies grade, or studying for a big math or science test? The members of the National Honor Society would like to announce that they are currently available for tutoring free-of-charge after school or before school by appointment. Please see a member of NHS or Mr. Thrower in room 203 to sign-up.


Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) meets every Tuesday at 7:15 AM in the VHS Library for a morning devotion and fellowship. FCA is open to any student at VHS and not just students that play on a sports team. Hope you can join us.


Mu Alpha Theta Tutoring:

When: Every Tuesday 7:00AM to 7:35 AM and 3:15PM to 4:00P in Coach Hall’s room 403. You can get tutoring, help on homework or study guides.
